MIXTE SPRING SUMMER 2012

Could you tell us a the reason of why you gave the title "Le Printemps" for your Mixte Vol.7 collection?

It actually originated from the french word "Le Printemps" which literally means Spring time. I want the collection to have a little bit color, and to embodies this feeling of being easy  and effortless when being worn you know? Clothes that you could wear just as you rolled out of the bed. Fuss free, either it is for going to the market, or even to have an early breakfast. There's even a lot of pieces that look like PJs, but i added it with jackets or some other outer wear.... It is just fuss free, effortless, something that people could easily wear.

Yea, and the effortless part actually showed on the make up and hairstyles... With the whole grunge messed up hair style, and this almost nude make ups.

Yeah! That's actually right. It is so effortless. It's very fresh, you could just wash your face and you could still rock the clothes.

Next question. Why skater chic meets urban traveler? Do you have some sort of inspiration, or there's a trend that you're trying to start probably?

No, there's not even a thought about starting a trend. I have always loved "skater", the way they move, the way they present themselves, they just look so laid back, yet sporty, but they are all still "kece". As opposed to bikers who are more rugged, rough, and heavy. Skaters are more laid back and more fresh in a way. It's more of a morning look, clothes that sway as you move and that's why we use a lot of light fabrics such as silks.

So basically, you could say that this collection is very Nina Nikicio. Cause with this collection lies your love of skate boarding yes? And now the reason of why you're using ceramic as your embellishments?

Well... The number one reason is because I have always been a fan of "Kandura Keramik" and i really want to do something with their ceramics. And the other reason is because of the concept of the collection itself. If you see the collection, i have turned something that's light and i mixed it up a little with something heavy like the Norwegian Knitting prints. The same concept goes for the ceramics, i want to mix it up a little, combining light elements with heavy and chunky accessories, ceramics are fragile but when you paired it with fabrics they just blend and it loses the fragile-ness of the ceramics. It is something that's very contradicting.

And your most favorite look?

My favorite one? It would have to be the last one-lah ya.... I worked on it for two months! Gilaaa kaliii... My whole team worked on it for two whole months!

Geez! That last look was totally one badass piece. We thought that the whole collection would have ceramics beading on the pieces....

Hahaha... Yes, it was awesome right? No... We're not doing it on every pieces. Cause if we do, we probably wouldn't have a show right now... Hahaha, that one piece took two months! Imagine the whole collection.

Hahaha... Yes, you would definitely wouldn't meet up the deadline if you did the whole collection. So... What trend does someone like Nina Nikicio sees for 2012?

I'm not the kind of person whole look at trends. I just block them out and i only make designs that i like and that i would wear. Something really personal that i would wear, cause it just doesn't make senses to me when a designer creates piece that even they themselves don't want to wear.
